Citywide Wi-Fi
The City Council plans to consider a proposal that would allow residents to get free wireless Internet access from anywhere in the city limits. A private vendor would install Wi-Fi equipment atop existing light poles and traffic signals.

Support Arlington school through eBay
I ran across an interesting eBay auction today. AISD has a profile on eBay, and they appear to sell surplus items. Seems like a good way to get reasonably-priced junk while supporting our schools.

DMN article on Cowboys stadium
The Dallas Morning News has an article on the construction progress around Jerry World. Apparently Glorypark, the towncenter development around the stadiums, is scheduld to be completed in fall 2008. The Three Bridges project should be completed in September 2009.

New AISD cell phone proposal
There is a new chapter in the ongoign saga of cell phones in Arlington schools. An advisory committee recomended last night a policy that would allow students to have phones on campus, but the phones can't be visible or be used during the school day. Confiscated phones would be returned only to a parent or guardian, and a $15 fine could be charged.
This seems logical, and a good compromise.

No cell phones for AISD?
The Arlington school board is considering a proposal that would ban cell phones from all AISD campuses. Yes, cell phones in school are a big distraction. But is an all-out ban necessary?
Maybe the punishment for talking on a cell phone or having a cell phone ring in class should be more harsh. But the benefits of having a phone in your purse, backpack or locker seem substantial. From calling mom to get a ride home, to calling 911 in the event of an emergency, I think there is definitely a place for phones in school.
